Hartleyite Rajasingam Panchalingam of Bank of Ceylon, Point Pedro and resident of Mavil View, Puloly South, Puloly, passed away on Monday June 24, 2008 at the age of 51. Mr. Panchalingam was born in Thumpalai studied at Hartley College until 1974. All his brothers studied at Hartley College as well. Mr. Rajalingam Raveendralingam passed away due to sudden illness, at the age of 54 on April 9 2008 at King Georges Hospital in Ilford London. Ravi was born in Kunchar Kadai, Navindil and studied at Hartley College up until his departure to UK in 1973. He was an excellent soccer player who played for all three teams in Hartley, and finally was selected to play in the 'All Ceylon National Soccer team'. He is one of the founder member and long serving secretary of HCPPA (UK) as well as former President and former Secretary of Board of Trustees and one of the founder of Global Trust of Hartley College in Colombo. As if the sufferings of the Tamils in Sri Lanka were not enough, fate dealt them a big blow in August, in the form of the loss of Dr.Kunanandam. Kunanandam was unique in DOING things rather than getting a name for it. He was quietly efficient and did not bother to seek recognition. That was the way he was at Hartley too where he studied from 1955 to 1964. His elder brother V Nithiyanandam is also a well known Hartleyite. (More)
